Burton Copeland, in association with Riverside ECHG, have brought a new service to visitors to HMP Manchester in the form of a weekly legal surgery. Carl Miles of Burton Copeland Solicitors will be in attendance at HMP Manchester’s visitor centre every Thursday between 1pm – 4pm in order to answer any queries that visitors may have relating to prisoners and their imprisonment.

Such queries may relate to matters such as early release on tag, otherwise known as Home Detention Curfew, or how soon they could move to category D open conditions. There may be other queries regarding day to day issues within the prison which Mr Miles will endeavour to help visitors with to ensure they have as much information at their disposal as possible.

We, at Burton Copeland and Riverside, are concerned that the current state of the prison system means that inmates are being significantly disadvantaged and primarily are receiving a lack of information about what their rights and entitlements are. This legal surgery is pioneering and we hope will be the start of a positive new service to HMP Manchester that will benefit those associated with it.
