Sam Corcoran

Solicitor

Sam joined Burton Copeland in July 2018 and is based in the Magistrates Court Department where she represents clients for a whole range of offence. She qualified as a solicitor in 2003 and spent many years working in the South of England before relocating to Manchester recently.

Sam has practiced exclusively in criminal defence and has vast experience of representing clients at the police station, in both the youth and magistrates courts and also preparing cases for trial at the crown court.

Sam is accustomed to representing clients facing the most serious allegations, including murder, kidnapping, serious sexual offences, drugs importations and complex fraud.

Notable Cases:

R v F Represented a juvenile acquitted of multiple rape charges. Sam received a commendation from the Crown Court judge for her thorough research and preparation of the case.

R v P Represented a man with no previous convictions accused of murder at the police station and when he was subsequently charged with manslaughter, persuaded the magistrates court to grant him bail. He was eventually acquitted of the charge at trial in the crown court.

R v M Representation of a pensioner accused of money laundering and allowing her premises to be used for dealing class A drugs. Secured the use of an ‘intermediary’ at trial to assist the defendant who suffered with psychological issues and learning difficulties, the client was acquitted of the charges.
