One of the Best Law Firms in the UK According to The Times Newspaper

BURTON COPELAND ARE ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED TO HAVE BEEN NAMED AS ONE OF THE TOP LAW FIRMS IN THE UK BY THE TIMES NEWSPAPER

The Times partnered with Statista, an international market research firm carried out the research by contacting more than 20,000 solicitors in England and Wales, and hundreds of clients, asking them to recommend the best law firms in a number of fields by asking a simple question ‘other than your own firm, which practice would you instruct in this area of work?’. As a first in the UK, this list establishes The Times’ “Who is the lawyers’ lawyer?”

Respondents were not allowed to recommend their own law firm, and technology and other scrutiny in place to prevent multiple voting. Out of 10,000 law firms in England and Wales’s, more than 500 received commendations, and the ones with the most votes made it into The Times Best Law Firms 2019.

The list comprises of 200 law firms in the UK and Burton Copeland are one of only 25 firms shortlisted in the financial crime, fraud and regulatory categories and is the sole Manchester only based firm to be given the accolade.
The profile written by The Times states:

“Burton Copeland is a specialist regulatory, fraud and criminal defence firm. According to its website, it is “one of the UK’s leading criminal law firms” and has been advising those accused of committing criminal offences for more than 35 years. With 25 fee-earners, it provides a comprehensive service assisting people at all stages of prosecution, from initial arrest and investigation through to police station interviews and court proceedings, with lawyers available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

This year it announced that, in a first for the firm, it had appointed its first non-qualified lawyer to be a partner — Jonathan Wall joined in 1990 as a junior clerk and has worked on some of the big cases the firm has been involved with, including the Hillsborough inquest, and he is acting on behalf of core participants in the Grenfell Tower inquiry.

Recent cases include securing the acquittal of a solicitor charged with perverting the course of justice by trying to communicate with his client while he was giving evidence from the witness box, and securing the acquittal of an employee at a central London bureau de change duped by his brother in a £150 million money-laundering case”
