At Burton Copeland, supporting our community has always been a core part of who we are. From national and international initiatives, to local causes close to our hearts, we’ve proudly contributed to a wide range of charitable organisations over the years. This year, we’ve decided to bring our focus even closer to home- just a stone’s throw from our head office in North Manchester- and partner with Manchester Youth Zone (MYZ).
A safe, supportive space for Manchester’s young people
Manchester Youth Zone is a space where young people aged 8-19 (up to 25 for those with additional needs) can be themselves, connect with others, and get the support they need to thrive. In areas where opportunities may be scarce and communities face multiple challenges, MYZ is often a lifeline.
Their mission is simple but powerful: to inspire and support young people to lead healthier, happier, and more successful lives. Whether it’s through sports and creative arts, academic support, mentoring, or simply having a warm, welcoming place to go, MYZ gives young people the tools to build confidence, learn new skills, and feel seen and valued.
What MYZ Offers
Inside the centre, the facilities are second to none, designed specifically for young people to feel safe, engaged and inspired. These include:
- A climbing wall, sports hall, and fully equipped gym
- Music, dance, and arts rooms
- Chill-out zones and sensory rooms
- A café serving nutritious meals
- Study areas and mentoring support
- Targeted programmes for mental wellbeing, employability, and personal development.
These spaces aren’t just for leisure, they’re where futures are shaped, self-worth is built, and lifelong resilience is nurtured.
Why this partnership matters
For Burton Copeland’s Senior Partner Gwyn Lewis, this partnership holds particular significance:
“I decided to plant my roots in the amazing city of Manchester 40 years ago. Manchester is a city which is bursting with creativity, resilience, innovation and wonderful people. It is the birthplace of iconic musicians, some of the best sports stars and is the hub for cutting edge technology, science and medicine.
How can it be that some of this great city’s suburbs are at the top of the list of the most deprived areas in the UK?
For the past 40 years Burton Copeland has stood up for, represented and supported the inhabitants of this great city, many of whom are from those deprived areas and have found themselves as victims of circumstance.
It is for that reason that we are absolutely delighted to be partnering with such a superb local charity. A charity with such strong desires to aspire and empower the young people of Manchester so that they are safe, happy, and they thrive regardless of their circumstances, background or where they live.
