Burton Copeland Awarded Best Law Firms 2020 in The Times

The Times has published their list of the Best Law Firms 2020, and Burton Copeland has once again been commended by its peers and other law firms, in the ‘financial crime & fraud & regulatory’ category.

Every firm who has made the list has been voted for by its peers from across England and Wales. International market research firm, Statista, asked solicitors to recommend the best law firms in one or more of 26 categories covering business, public and private-client fields. For the first time, Scottish law firms were also surveyed this year.

The respondents couldn’t choose their own firm, or vote more than once. And after 3,271 respondents took part; the firms with the most votes made it into The Times Best Law Firms 2020 list.

The published list describes Burton Copeland’s profile as follows:

“Burton Copeland is a specialist regulatory, fraud and criminal defence firm. It provides advice and representation to defendants accused of everything from driving offences to organised crime; professional misconduct to historical sexual offences. Its solicitors are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

“The firm defends clients in prosecutions for alleged breaches of health and safety regulations and in actions brought by other regulatory bodies, such as the Financial Conduct Authority.”

Also highlighted is how Burton Copeland represents individuals in disciplinary hearings initiated by their profession’s governing body. Such as the staff referred to the Nursing and Midwifery Council, in regards to alleged impaired fitness to practise due to misconduct, incompetence or criminal behaviour.

Along with defending juveniles in youth court. For example, in the case of a 16-year-old who was arrested after attempting to purchase a toxin deadlier than ricin on the dark web. The teenager stated that he wanted the toxin to kill himself due to depression, following a break up with his girlfriend, and has no intention of harming other people. The firm’s solicitors successfully argued for a referral order, as opposed to a custodial sentence.

Here’s what members of the Burton Copeland team had to say:

“To be the only solely based Manchester firms in the Financial Crime and Fraud and Regulatory category is a huge honour for which we are extremely proud” Dan Weed, Compliance Partner.

“We’re absolutely delighted to have been named again by The Times as one of the top law firms in the UK, I must congratulate our staff without which this achievement would not have been possible” Louise Straw, Managing Partner.
