At Burton Copeland, we have always been committed to supporting our community. This year, as part of our newly launched charity partnership with Manchester Youth Zone (MYZ), we’re proud to be getting involved on the ground- raising funds, volunteering, and engaging directly with the incredible young people this charity supports.
We’re kicking things off with a bang- or, more accurately, a very long run.
Meet Jack Ashworth: Paralegal, Police Station Advisor… and Ultra Endurance Runner
One of our own, Jack Ashworth, a Paralegal and Accredited Police Station Advisor at Burton Copeland, is going the extra mile (or 130 of them to be exact!) in aid of MYZ.
In August, Jack will take on an extraordinary 130 mile run, covering the distance in just 55 hours.
Starting and finishing at Breakwater Country Park, Holyhead, the Ring O’ Fire 130 is a full circumnavigation of the island in a clockwise direction. The route follows the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path, covering 130 miles (209 km) with 9 checkpoints. Runners must check in and out of each checkpoint and meet mandatory cut-off times or face withdrawal from the race.
You will encounter diverse terrain, including sandy and pebble beaches, steep cliff-top paths, headlands, rocky coves, sand dunes, farmland, forest sections, and quaint seaside villages. The route is predominantly trail, with some quiet public roads, gates and stiles.
Despite over 13,000 feet (4,000 meters) of vertical ascent and descent, the route primarily involves low-level running. The highest point on the Ring O’ Fire route is Holyhead Mountain (Mynydd Twr), standing at 720 feet (220 meters).
You can park and leave your car at Breakwater Country Park in Holyhead. Please note that we cannot accept responsibility for the car or any belongings left inside it.
It’s a mammoth physical and mental feat, but one that Jack has committed to in order to raise money and awareness for Manchester Youth Zone and the life-changing work they do.
Why Manchester Youth Zone?
MYZ is based very close to our North Manchester office and provides a safe, inspiring, and supportive space for young people aged 8-19 (and up to 25 for those with additional needs). From sports and creative arts to mentoring, wellbeing programmes, and more, MYZ is a vital resource for hundreds of children and teenagers, many of whom come from some of the most disadvantaged areas in the country.
Burton Copeland’s partnership with MYZ will involve regular fundraising events, staff volunteering at sessions, and getting involved in activities such as music, arts and crafts, and sport.
Jack’s ultra-run is the first fundraising initiative in this partnership, and we couldn’t have asked for a more inspiring start.
Supporting Jack’s journey
Jack’s determination to push his limits for such a worthy cause perfectly reflects the spirit of our partnership with MYZ: local people, doing extraordinary things to make a real difference in the lives of young people in Manchester.
We’ll be cheering Jack on every step of the way and supporting him as he prepares for the big run.
