It has been announced that as from the 28th June 2019, the Victim Surcharge is to be increased under the Criminal Justice Act 2003 (Surcharge) (Amendment) Order 2019. The Victim Surcharge is ordered to be paid when someone either pleads guilty or are convicted after trial of a criminal offence before the Criminal courts in England & Wales.

In a judgement by District Judge M Coleman said that, "Although there is no obligation on the court to give written reasons why an application for a summons is granted....this is an unusual and exceptional application with a considerable public interest". He went on to say "I am satisfied that there is prima facie evidence of an issue to be determined at trial"
